The Black Wheatear is a relatively large passerine bird with glossy black plumage in males and dark brown in females. It has a white rump and base of tail, with a black inverted T on the tail, making it easily recognisable in flight.
It prefers to perch in prominent places and flies with an agile wingbeat.

Resident (Jan - Dec)
The food consists mainly of insects, supplemented by berries in autumn.
