Western Marsh Harrier
Circus aeruginosus
The marsh harrier is a medium-sized bird of prey with a wingspan of 115 to 140 cm. It exhibits marked sexual dimorphism: adult males have light grey wings and tail with black tips, a brown back and a yellowish head, while females are larger and have dark brown plumage with yellowish tones on the head and throat. Juveniles resemble females, but with a darker and more uniform tone. Their nests, built with dry branches, are located in old reed beds.
Marsh Harriers fly at low altitude taking advantage of the wind direction and conserving energy. They have the ability to glide with ease.
