Dartford Warbler

Sylvia undata

The Dartford Warbler is a small, dark-coloured bird with a long, upright tail. It has a slate-grey back and a wine-coloured breast with white flecks. It can be distinguished by its reddish eye ring and orange legs, while females are browner and juveniles have duller tones and a brownish breast. It is a restless bird that moves between bushes with short, low-level flights, frequently moving its tail. Its preferred habitat is Mediterranean vegetation, although it is found in areas of Cistus thickets and heathland.

Its nest is cup-shaped, covered with grass and thin stems, and is located in low areas of bushes and small plants.
